Artichoke Magazine was created in 2011 as an initiative to revive Winters Free Press, a newspaper of Winters College. Artichoke continues to capture the energy of York University’s students. Combining photographs, articles, and poems on majors, entertainment, lifestyle, and student health.
It is a monthly non-profit magazine.

At Artichoke, I was given the opportunity to work with a team of designers, writers and photographers to create engaging editorial spreads, and in the process fostering an impactful magazine experience.
There I developed innovative creative solutions, utilizing typography, layout, and imagery while adhering to the magazine’s style guide. I also produced compelling illustrations and photographs for articles to capture the readers attention and enhance storytelling.
There is always room to be expressive and experimental within a grid layout and style guide.
Picking key phrases from the article highlights the angle you wish to draw the reader’s attention too.
The right picture(s) or illustration(s) can sell a story.
